Introducing the JarBar

Today I’d like to introduce my Cape Town readers to the JarBar. If you are not a vegan (thanks for stopping by), you can stay for this post. There’s something for you as well.

Most of us want to eat healthy foods but often we end up not having the time to prepare a healthy and nutritious meal. I’m the same and often get into a situation where I’ll have some bread with vegan cheese or a vegan meat substitute like a hot dog for example. The quicker the better. Our busy lifestyles sometimes make us choose the not so healthy options.

Luckily there’s the JarBar in Cape Town. They prepare healthy and delicious salads, soups, gluten-free pastas, curries and meals. Basically you get all the goodness in one jar and most dietary requirements are catered for. If you are not vegan or vegetarian, there’s also meat options and I’d like to highlight, that the JarBar supports ethical farming. All the ingredients are sourced locally and are free from refined products (such as sugar), additives, GMO and are mostly gluten free.

So how does the concept work?

Visit http://www.jarbar.co.za , order your jar(s) of choice from the weekly changing menu, get it delivered and all you have to do is open the jar, throw the food into a bowl and voila, your healthy meal is ready for you to enjoy.

What I really like about the JarBar is, that they focus on sustainability by serving food in reusable jars, so there’s no packaging and less impact on the environment. More info on that can be found on their website as well.

I think this concept works especially well for people stuck in an office without any available healthy food options. You can get the jar delivered to your office and can avoid having that junk food from the canteen for lunch. It’s also nice for a picknick in summer. Us Cape Town people love having a picknick on the beach or whilst attending a concert in the park. Why not take a jar along and impress your friends this picknick season?

The vegan jars I’ve tried were the Jungle Fever, which was super exotic and tasty as well as the traditional Thai curry, which was excellent in flavour and had everything you expect from an authentic Thai Curry. Looking at the menu online, I definitely want to try out more vegan jars.

You can also check out the JarBar Facebook page for further information. https://web.facebook.com/JarBar.FriendlyFood/

For what occasion would you order a jar? Let me know in the comments. I’d love to hear your ideas.

Until next time,

The Vegan Rainbow

Disclaimer: I’ve received jars from the JarBar and all the opinions on the product are my own.
