Caspyn West Coast Gin wins Gold Medal

Summer is on its way in South Africa and that means refreshing beverages are in order. Gin is a  favourite choice for sure and makes the perfect sundowner drink. I only discovered my love for gin last year when I attended a gin school in the coastal town of Mossel Bay where I made my very own. Until then I didn’t know much about the art of gin but learned everything about it in the “gin-making classroom”. These days I love a flavoured G&T and can’t believe I didn’t discover this herbal drink much earlier in life 😉

I love the fact that gin is a natural liquor that offers quite a few potential benefits. Looking for the perfect vegan gin this summer? I’ve got a tip for you and can recommend a gin that has just been awarded a Gold Medal by the SA Craft Gin Awards.

West Coast Distillers is proud to announce its recent receipt of a Gold Medal in the SA Craft Gin Awards 2019 for their Caspyn West Coast Gin. This prestigious award is sponsored by Checkers Liquor Shop and highlights the best in South African Craft Gin each year.

West Coast Distillers produce artisanal hand crafted gin and bitters in the heart of Langebaan. Friends of over 20 years, Shaun and Shane, co-founded West Coast Distillers in 2017 out of a love for the ocean and a good drink. The plan was hatched on board a plane to Croatia and the rest, as they say, was history. Their solid friendship and business acumen is the success behind West Coast Distillers. Their aim is to produce high quality, great tasting spirits that are unique and exciting.

West Coast Distillers calls the picturesque town of Langebaan, South Africa, home. They are flanked by the West Coast National Park and the tranquil Langebaan lagoon. West Coast Distiller’s relaxed approach to life is well suited to this small ocean town.

The award winning Caspyn West Coast Gin is crisp with a citrusy background. It includes 12 locally foraged botanicals in its distillation in a celebration of Western Cape Fynbos. Subtle floral notes from Rooibos, Honeybush and Hibiscus enhance the gin to create a well-balanced yet complex drink. Lemon and black pepper botanicals create a fresh but spicy ‘sherbet tingle’ to finish.

West Coast Distillers also produce the Belladonna Night Shade Gin, infused with the Night Shade Berry after distillation, and a range of Mutiny bitters which includes 3 variants; Aromatic, Orange, and the world’s first Rooibos bitters. Mutiny bitters are botanically infused, gravity strained and mixed and pressed by hand.

It is clear with these forward-thinking and contemporary combinations that the award was well deserved and shall surely not be the last for the gregarious friends and business partners. Whether you are a local or foreign traveller to South Africa, you know which gin to choose for your sundowner.
